Exquisite Corpse No. 6

Josephine, Sabine and I have been doing a series of "exquisite corpse" collages.  One of us starts, folds the paper to hide what she's done and passes it on to the second, who does the same, etc.  This one was started by me with the bottom third, Josephine did the middle, and Sabine finished it off with the top. None of us saw it until it was totally finished and (ta-da!) finally unfolded.  Much fun was had by all!

Martha and the Mule

Pastel by William Merritt Chase entitled "Interior: Young Woman Standing at Table" circa 1898. Mule from a vintage children's book about animals. I was struck by the scale and coloration of found mule and how well I could integrate it into Chase's work so it hardly seems like a collage.

De apotheker / The pharmacist

I found these old handwritten telephone cards, this one's from an 'apotheker', so I translated this one into a tag.

She Is Not Amused

Collage made of leftovers and bits that didn't quite fit in the last few collage themes!

Theme: Free For All

Hi all, I'm bowing out from the themes this week...
so I thought a bit of an anything goes/free-stylin' week.

Thanks for meeting the challenges of the March/April themes.
Fantastic stuff, and I'm looking forward to not knowing what's coming next...
Ron :)

EARTH DAY ADVOCATE

Today is Earth Day
And I'm here to say,
Ride your bicycles folks
Keep pollution at bay!

Being a person who NEVER learned to drive a car I am an Earth Day Advocate everyday and I own four bikes.  Being a part of the solution to pollution for the last 48 years! (I'm figuring I would have gotten my driver's permit at age 16.)

This is my latest collage from last week - so in this sense it´s from the archive - a double page for a book I´m working on since a month.

Transport Through The Ages

How About........Balloon?

Migrating Uptown

This week's theme: Trains and Boats and Planes...and more.

It's transport this week, those wonderful vehicles that get us from A to B....(sometimes via C if you're a public transport user like me...) Slow boats to China, Paper Planes and Funky Mopeds all permitted!

Gothic Comics

This week's theme: Gothic

Things have got gloomier with this week's theme. All things Gothic related accepted....Books, art, films, music, architecture et al.
 Should be a laugh.... :D

See the Dutch Dance

Rumour has it that eating tulips and smoking pot gives us very elastic bodies and never disappearing smiles on our faces!

River Dance

Urban Ballet

This week's theme: Dance

Inspired after watching a bit of Fred & Ginger at the weekend.

So any dance or dance craze that you wanna do. Includes the Twist, the Bump, the Mashed Potato to that funny old Tudor dance Henry the Eighth does while courting his next wife!

exuberant nature

I've been thinking about how to celebrate both the Apollonian and the Dionysian aspects of spring. Then today I found this: "Note to self: you're not being weird enough."

Bird House

One from the archive as we are going away for a couple of days to Yorkshire.

Spring has Sprung!

Been caught up with one thing and another this week so here's one from the archives.

A Paean To Spring

Lovely ladies from a book about The Ziegfeld Follies. The background is something I've wanted to use for a long time. It is a book cover made of wood. Found at the Argosy Book Store in NYC years ago. The other side is covered with red felt.

For Your Spring Wardrobe

flower remedies 1 & 2

From very recent archives: two cut-paper collage postcards (w/ acrylic paint & rubber stamps). Background text is from opening section of Encyclopedia of Flower Remedies.

If you're wondering why I included so many red-and-white striped tulips (from old Dutch master still lifes), it's because they fascinate me. They are a now-extinct cultivar in which the stripes were caused by a virus. This cultivar, Semper Augustus, was the most expensive tulip sold during the tulip mania of the 1630s.
